সিলেটের বিশ্বনাথ পৌর স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগ যুগ্ম-সম্পাদক শামীম আহমদকে (৩৫) গ্রেফতার করেছে থানা পুলিশ। তিনি বিশ্বনাথ পৌর এলাকার জানাইয়া গ্রামের আবুল কালামের ছেলে। বুধবার (২২ অক্টোবর) সন্ধ্যায় পৌর এলাকা থেকে তাকে গ্রেফতার করে পুলিশ। বৃহস্পতিবার তাকে আদালতে প্রেরণ করা হবে বলে পুলিশ জানায়।
স্থানীয় ও পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা যায়, ২০১২ সালের ১৭ এপ্রিল ঢাকা থেকে সিলেট-২ আসনের সাবেক এমপি ও বিএনপির সাবেক সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক এম ইলিয়াস আলী নিখোঁজের পর ২৩ এপ্রিল সিলেটের বিশ্বনাথে ঘটে যাওয়া রণক্ষেত্রের ঘটনায় আহত হওয়ার প্রায় ১৩ বছর পর গত ৬ মে সিলেট সিনিয়র জুডিসিয়াল ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট ১ম আদালতে বিশ্বনাথ উপজেলার রামপাশা ইউনিয়নের রামপাশা গ্রামের মৃত আসলাম আলীর ছেলে হাবিবুর রহমান বাদী হয়ে একটি মামলা দায়ের করেন।
মামলায় ১০৫ জনকে এজাহারনামীয় অভিযুক্ত এবং আরও প্রায় তিন শতাধিক ব্যক্তিকে অজ্ঞাতনামা বলে অভিযুক্ত করা হয়েছে। ওই মামলার এজাহারনামীয় অভিযুক্ত হচ্ছেন পৌর স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগ নেতা শামীম আহমদ। আদালতের নির্দেশনায় পরবর্তীতে বিশ্বনাথ থানা পুলিশ মামলাটি রেকর্ড করে।
বিশ্বনাথ পৌর স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগ নেতাকে গ্রেফতারের সত্যতা স্বীকার করে বিশ্বনাথ থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ (ওসি) এনামুল হক চৌধুরী বলেন, গ্রেফতার আসামিকে কাল বৃহস্পতিবার আদালতে পাঠানো হবে।

Shamim Ahmed (35), Joint Secretary of the Bishwanath Municipal Volunteer League in Sylhet, has been arrested by local police. He is the son of Abul Kalam from Janaiya village in the Bishwanath municipal area. Police apprehended him on Wednesday evening (October 22) from the municipal area. He is scheduled to be produced in court on Thursday, according to police.
Local and police sources stated that following the disappearance of former Sylhet-2 MP and former BNP Organizing Secretary M. Ilias Ali from Dhaka on April 17, 2012, and the subsequent violent incident in Bishwanath on April 23, nearly 13 years later, a case was filed on May 6 in the Sylhet Senior Judicial Magistrate Court 1. The case was filed by Habibur Rahman, son of the late Aslam Ali from Rampasha village, Rampasha Union, Bishwanath.
The case names 105 individuals as formal accused and approximately three hundred others as unidentified accused. Shamim Ahmed, the municipal Volunteer League leader, is among the named accused. Following court instructions, Bishwanath police subsequently recorded the case.
Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bishwanath Police Station Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that the arrested individual will be sent to court on Thursday.
