কোম্পানীগঞ্জে শাহ আরেফিন টিলা লুটের নেপথ্য কারিগর বশর মিয়া গ্রেপ্তার
সিলেটের কোম্পানীগঞ্জে শাহ আরেফিন (রহ.) টিলা ও মাজার ধ্বংস করে পাথর লুটের মূল হোতা বশর মিয়াকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে যৌথবাহিনী। বৃহস্পতিবার (২৩ অক্টোবর) দিবাগত রাত সাড়ে ১২টার দিকে উপজেলার জালিয়ারপাড় গ্রামের নিজ বাড়ি থেকে তাকে আটক করা হয়। পরে মোবাইল কোর্টের মাধ্যমে তাকে এক বছরের কারাদণ্ড ও জরিমানা দেওয়া হয়েছে।
গ্রেপ্তারকৃত বশর মিয়া (৪৫) কোম্পানীগঞ্জ উপজেলার জালিয়ারপাড় গ্রামের মৃত শুকুর আলীর ছেলে। এসময় একই অভিযানে আব্দুল মালেক (৩৫) নামে আরও একজনকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। তিনি বৈশাখান্দী বাহাদুরপুর গ্রামের আব্দুর রহমানের ছেলে।
উপজেলা প্রশাসন সূত্রে জানা যায়, উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা ও নির্বাহী ম্যাজিস্ট্রেটের নেতৃত্বে যৌথবাহিনীর একটি দল বৃহস্পতিবার গভীর রাতে পাথর লুটপাটকারীদের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযান পরিচালনা করে। এসময় শাহ আরেফিন টিলা ধ্বংসের অন্যতম নেপথ্য কারিগর বশর মিয়াকে তার নিজ বাড়ি থেকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। পরে মোবাইল কোর্টের মাধ্যমে খাদ্যদ্রব্য সুরক্ষা আইন ২০২৩ অনুযায়ী তাকে এক বছরের জেল দেওয়া হয়। একই অপরাধে আব্দুল মালেককে তিন মাসের কারাদণ্ড দেওয়া হয়।
স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, গত বছরের ৫ আগস্ট আওয়ামী সরকার পতনের পর থেকেই শাহ আরেফিন (রহ.) টিলা থেকে অবৈধভাবে পাথর উত্তোলন শুরু হয়। ঐ সময় প্রায় ৭০০ বছরের পুরোনো ঐতিহ্যবাহী মাজার প্রাঙ্গণে স্তুপ করে রাখা কোটি টাকার পাথর লুট করা হয়। পরবর্তীতে শতবর্ষী গাছ কেটে এবং কবরস্থান ও খেলার মাঠ ধ্বংস করে টিলা থেকে ব্যাপক হারে পাথর উত্তোলন করা হয়। এসব কর্মকাণ্ডের নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন বশর কোম্পানির বশর মিয়া।
পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, বশর মিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে পূর্বেও শাহ আরেফিন টিলা ধ্বংস, অবৈধ পাথর উত্তোলন, অস্ত্রধারণ ও পুলিশ এসল্টসহ একাধিক মামলা রয়েছে। এলাকায় তার প্রভাবের কারণে কেউ মুখ খুলতে সাহস পেত না।
কোম্পানীগঞ্জ থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. রতন শেখ বলেন, “বশর মিয়া শাহ আরেফিন টিলা ধ্বংসের একাধিক মামলার আসামি। তাকে গ্রেপ্তারের পর মোবাইল কোর্টের মাধ্যমে এক বছরের সাজা দেওয়া হয়েছে। একই মামলায় আরেক আসামি আব্দুল মালেককেও তিন মাসের সাজা দেওয়া হয়েছে। তাদের শুক্রবার বিকেলে আদালতে প্রেরণ করা হয়েছে।”

The joint forces have arrested Bashar Mia, the alleged ringleader behind the destruction and illegal stone looting from Shah Arefin (R.) Hill and its adjoining shrine area in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet. He was detained from his residence in Jaliarpar village around 12:30 am on Thursday night (October 23). Later, a mobile court sentenced him to one year in jail and fined him.
The arrestee, Bashar Mia (45), is the son of late Shukur Ali of Jaliarpar village in Companiganj. During the same operation, another suspect named Abdul Malek (35), son of Abdur Rahman of Baishakhandi Bahadurpur village, was also detained.
According to upazila administration sources, a joint team led by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate conducted the late-night operation against illegal stone extractors. Bashar Mia, identified as one of the key figures behind the destruction of Shah Arefin Hill, was arrested from his home. The mobile court later sentenced him to one year in prison under the Food Safety Act 2023, while Abdul Malek received a three-month jail term for the same offense.
Local residents said that illegal stone extraction from Shah Arefin (R.) Hill began after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year. At that time, stones worth crores of taka, which had been stored in the 700-year-old shrine compound, were looted. Later, large trees were felled, and graveyards and playgrounds were destroyed to extract stones on a massive scale. Bashar Mia, locally known as the head of “Bashar Company,” reportedly led the operation.
Police sources confirmed that Bashar Mia has several previous cases filed against him, including for the destruction of Shah Arefin Hill, illegal stone extraction, possession of arms, and assaulting police. Due to his influence, locals were reportedly afraid to speak out against him.
Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ratan Sheikh said, “Bashar Mia is an accused in several cases related to the destruction of Shah Arefin Hill. Following his arrest, a mobile court sentenced him to one year in jail, while another accused, Abdul Malek, was given a three-month sentence. Both were sent to court on Friday afternoon.”
